Flower Child

OK so I think I could have been a hippie! I was born in the 1960's....even if it was only the last thee weeks of it! I think Woodstock would have been excellent, the whole travelling thing and I love to tie dye!!!! Today I helped Emily's girl scout troop tie dye as one activity on their way to earning the Art to Wear badge.
We had a full day today. First we took our troop on a tour of the Desert Mission Food Bank and children's dental clinic in downtown Phoenix. The girls had collected about 120 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to donate to the food bank, and we had a wonderful presentation by the director of the facility this morning. It was very interesting and she really covered some things I think hit home with the girls.

Then it was back to our house to tie dye and do a few other activities as part of earning the badge.

Here are some pictures of the things we made...including a Father's day present (shhhhh) we will deliver next month in Creede, and some custom pillow cases for our upcoming three state national park free for all adventure....stay tuned for more on that!!!!!
Shhhhh don't tell Pepaw.....

Strings Performance

Emily's strings group from school held their spring performance tonight. She played two songs with the group Burleske and Big Rock Candy Mountain and a solo The can can. Each student gave a short speech about their song and then played, Emily did a great job! We also found out that starting next year Benchmark will expand their strings program to be an elective course instead of just the informal group they have been. They they will meet for two full class periods a week and not have to meet during afternoon recess!

Pretty Girl!!

Emily will be a junior bridesmaid this August in my cousin Stacy's wedding in Houston Texas. I had intended to make a dress for her like I did for Sally's wedding in 2005, but I was at Dillards today and found a beautiful dress for Emily that we couldn't pass up. She tried it on and it looks so perfect on her.

Loving my BPS class.....

I am taking a class by Tena Springer at http://www.bigpicturescrapbooking.com/ called 52 card pick-up. We are creating a deck of idea cards, and each day experiment with a new technique. Today's project was on heritage journaling, and scanning in handwritten jorunaling on the back of old pictures to use on your pages. I love the page I made, it's a picture of a barn built in the 1860's in Missouri by my Great Great Great Grandparents, with jornaling by my Great Grandmother Maude Carter Bender.

Lake Powell

We spent three days last week at Lake Powell in northern Arizona, on a field trip with Emily's class. We visited several museums, Antelope Canyon, Glen Canyon Dam, and and rafted on the Colorado River. It was a wonderful trip, and something Emily should remember forever!

Trying our hand and blogging.....

Hi all!

Emily pointed out that the last update to her website was about this time two years ago! Seems I am not so good at keeping her webpage up to date. So thought we would try our hand at blogging and see if we can do any better. We've had an exciting spring and looking forward to lots going on this summer to keep you up on.

Thanks for reading!

Here's a picture of us in Page, Arizona last week!
