Softball

Our new year’s resolutions here were all about getting out of our box and trying new things....well Emily has embraced this and thrown all her boxes away! She came home a couple months ago and told me she signed up for the softball team at school...WHAT????????? Emily played soccer when she was about 8 and while it was fun, I would not describe my girl as sporty, athletic or even remotely interested in any kind of sports especially PLAYING a sport. She is more interested in makeup and the computer. I was a little apprehensive at first and honestly thought she would start and end up quitting pretty quickly. Well I need to remember that I can never underestimate this girl, she always blows me away when I am totally not expecting it! We went shopping and got cleats, a glove, some sliding shorts (didn't even know what those were), a bat, batting gloves, and a bag to tote all this stuff around.

Emily had never even held a bat, or put on a glove, the world’s best grandpa spent several days at the park with her helping her get the basics and she was picking things up fast than any of us expected.

She has made some wonderful new friends in her teammates and comes home sweaty and dirty from practice and routinely shows me her scrapes and bruises with a huge smile on her face. They made two super fun road trips for games in Sierra Vista and Bullhead City, that included hours of movies, laughing, talking and team building on a huge charter bus for 9 girls a coach and a few parents. Her team is pretty young and they have all made great strides but this is indeed a "building" season for their team, and I hope to be able to continue watching these girls play together for the next few years.

Emily has been playing right field, some games are pretty slow out there but she's made a few outs.

Go Spartans!

Seven Springs Hiking

We headed to Seven Springs north of Carefree to hike and have a picnic on Easter Sunday. It was a gorgeous day and a beautiful spot!

These frogs didn't want to share their spot with us so we moved to a differnt rock, for our picnic.

In the interest of full disclousre Emily came home from her softball game on Friday night with several temporary tattoos, you can see one on her ankle, that has since been washed off!

Easter Eggs

I didn't pick up anything for dying eggs this year, thinking that Emily wouldn't want to. Well I love that she can surprise me and still loves to do things that might be "for kids" whatever that means. She woke up on Saturday last weekend and said she wanted to color eggs. Yea!
